Celebrating Creativity: St Michael’s College Arts Week 2025

St. Michael鈥檚 College had the incredible privilege of welcoming David Booth and his Imbala Aboriginal performance crew to kickstart Arts Week 2025. The students were immersed in the rich traditions of Aboriginal culture through a powerful performance that showcased traditional Aboriginal dance, music, and storytelling.

Building on this experience, some of the Year 7 students had the opportunity to participate in hands-on painting and jewellery-making workshops.

Year 10 Art Students Inspired by Salvador Dal铆 Exhibition at d’Arenberg Cube

The Salvador Dal铆 exhibition at the d’Arenberg Cube was a highlight of Arts Week, providing the Year 10 Art students with a deep connection to the world of Surrealism and a greater understanding of Dal铆鈥檚 genius. The visit was not only an educational experience but also a source of artistic inspiration, sparking ideas that the students are sure to carry with them throughout their studies.

On Friday, 28 February, the 2025 Athletics Day took place at St Michael鈥檚 College Secondary Campus. It was a vibrant, action-packed day filled with excitement, as students participated in a wide range of athletics events and sports, including netball, volleyball, and soccer.

Throughout the day, students showcased remarkable determination and resilience across both track and field events. The novelty events and team sports were equally popular, allowing students from all year levels to compete for their house in various games. Enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and enjoyment were on full display, and it was fantastic to see some old scholars returning as volunteer referees to support the event. Old Scholar and triple Champions of Champions 100m winner Lachlan Sands also returned to present the 2025 Champion of Champions medal.

The dance floor in the house tent arena was back for another year, where the Nutbush and the macarena had students and teachers alike showing off their moves! Music teachers Mr Donovan and Mr Musci kept the energy high, ensuring that even those not competing had a way to celebrate and enjoy themselves.

The House Captains played a vital role in making the day a success. Their dedication to filling event spots, motivating their peers, and fostering house spirit was outstanding. From decorating house tents with vibrant colours and banners to leading traditional chants and songs, they went above and beyond to create an entertaining experience for all.

The 4x100m relay and the Champions of Champions races were filled with anticipation and excitement, as the College鈥檚 fastest 100m runners put on a show for everyone. It was Mitchell McDonald (Year 12) who was crowned Champion for the boys ahead of Benilde House Captain Logan Hughes (Year 12) in 2nd and James Chalubek (Year 12) in 3rd. Anelise Bewry (Year 11) came back from a 2nd place in 2024 to be crowned the 2025 champion girls runner ahead of 2024 winner Lily Colville (Year 11) in 2nd and Year 9 Miguel Middle School Captain Lara Dragani in 3rd.

The top of house leaderboard rotated between Miguel and Jaime for the entire day, however it was Miguel just taking the Brother Chris Gorringe House Cup narrowly over a late charge from Solomon by only 26 points. Mutien debuted their marching band at the final house relay races, however it was Benilde that were able to claim the Geoff Cornish Spirit and Sportsmanship Cup due to their support for others and willingness to fill events all day.

Congratulations to all students who participated on the day and thank you kindly to the students, staff and support personnel that made it such a memorable experience for everyone involved.

We are thrilled to celebrate the achievements of three of our senior students 鈥 Year 12 students Miles C, Joshua M and, Harvey O as well as Year 11 student Izacc M 鈥 who have recently embarked on exciting School-Based Apprenticeships.

Miles C聽has taken a significant step toward his future career as a carpenter. His journey began in Year 11 when he enrolled in a Certificate II in Construction Pathways at聽. The hands-on experience he gained with Lavia Carpentry over the Christmas break paved the way for this fantastic opportunity to join them as a school-based carpentry apprentice.

Joshua M聽has embarked upon a career as a plumber by commencing a TAPS school based plumbing apprenticeship with Adelaide West Plumbing and Gas. Joshua鈥檚 VET journey initially began in Automotive Technology at聽, but a work experience opportunity sparked a newfound passion for plumbing. This experience helped him realise his true calling, leading him to pursue this聽fantastic apprenticeship opportunity.

Izacc M聽discovered his passion for cabinetmaking in Year 10 through聽聽Construction Try a Trade program 鈥 a one-day-a-fortnight 鈥渢aster鈥 course. This experience inspired him to pursue his dream of working alongside his father in the family鈥檚 cabinet-making business, where he is now undertaking a cabinetmaking and timber technology apprenticeship.

Harvey O聽will begin an Electrotechnology School-Based Apprenticeship with Consolidated Power Projects (CPP) next week! This exciting opportunity allows Harvey to balance his education and career development by attending school three days a week, while dedicating the remaining two days to on-the-job training or trade school. At CPP, Harvey will work alongside a skilled team of tradespeople, gaining hands-on experience in assembling electrical protection panels used in commercial renewable energy projects. To further enhance his practical skills, Harvey will work full-time during school holidays and seamlessly transition to a full-time apprenticeship upon completing Year 12. We are incredibly proud of Harvey鈥檚 achievement and wish him every success as he builds a solid foundation for his future career.

We are incredibly proud of these students鈥 achievements and wish them every success as they build strong foundations for their future careers.

On the final day of Term 3, St Michael鈥檚 College came alive with a special celebration 鈥 De La Salle Day. Students and staff from both campuses united for a day filled with joy, reflection, and community, all in honour of the legacy of St John Baptist de La Salle.

The day began with a Liturgy, where we remembered the work and sacrifices of St John Baptist de La Salle and the Brothers who committed to his mission of providing a human and Christian education for all. As we celebrated our Founder, we also acknowledged the 70-year history of St Michael鈥檚 College, a legacy built on these same values of faith, education and service.

This year, our De La Salle Day celebrations were particularly special. Inspired by the College fetes that took place in our early years, the College transformed into a vibrant 鈥楩estival of Youth.鈥

The campus buzzed with energy as students enjoyed entertainment, games, music performances and delicious food from various food trucks. It was a day that reflected not only the spirit of fun but also the sense of community that has always been central to St Michael鈥檚 College.

Thank you to all who contributed to making this day a huge success!

All proceeds raised will be donated to the Lasallian Foundation, ensuring that our celebration continues to make a difference.

This week, a group of Year 10 students ventured to Flinders University for their yearly Enrichment Program. The Enrichment Program provided a valuable opportunity for students to experience lectures and practical activities in discipline specific sessions aimed at encouraging and informing their planning for future studies. By focussing on learning areas that interest them and by mixing with students from other schools with the same interests, students also experienced a real taste of university life.

Students selected from their preferred study area and then rotated through a timetable of three sessions within that area.

  • Stream 1: College of Business, Government and Law (Law, Politics and International Relations, Criminology, Business and Accounting)
  • Stream 2: College of Education, Psychology and Social Work (Social Work, Psychology, Education, Sport Health & Physical Activity)
  • Stream 3: College of Humanities and Social Sciences (Media and Communication, Creative Industries, Tourism & Events, Arts)
  • Stream 4: College of Medicine and Public Health (Medical Science & Laboratory Medicine, Public Health, Paramedicine)
  • Stream 5: College of Nursing and Health Sciences (Health Sciences, Nursing, Disability & Community, Optometry)
  • Stream 6: College of Science and Engineering (Engineering, Computer Science, Forensic & Analytical Science, Cybersecurity)
  • Stream 7: VET

Our students had an enjoyable day, all thankful for the opportunity to get a taste of life at university.

Aldo Calo, Year 10 Director

My experience at Flinders Uni was very enjoyable. Each session provided a strong understanding of what life would be like at Uni, with well-timed presentations providing students different activities that explored what we鈥檇 be learning about in our respective fields. – Mara C

I thought that it was quite an informational experience that allowed students to get an understanding of what a university life is all about. We were able to experience both lecture and tutorial style sessions which build on the model of university studies. The trip to Flinders University was very enjoyable. – Finn T

Shoutout to our amazing Year 10 Peer Support Leaders!

Throughout the year, Year 10 Peer Support Leaders have spent time mentoring their Year 2 brothers and sisters at the Primary Campus, creating a positive and supportive space for everyone. It was incredible to see the Year 10 students stepping up as role models, guiding the younger students through fun activities and helping them build confidence.

These sessions are all about fostering connections, leadership, and community spirit. We鈥檙e so proud of how our Year 10 leaders are making a difference in the lives of our younger students!

As Peer Support Leaders, we have spent a lot of time this year mentoring Year 7 and Year 2 students. We鈥檝e had several visits to the Primary Campus to teach and support our younger Year 2 brothers and sisters. Spending time with them was a fun and entertaining leadership experience. Their energy and enthusiasm made the time spent with them enjoyable. I loved seeing how curious and eager they were to learn and how excited they were when we arrived on Campus; it was a positive bonding experience. – Jaeda K

Throughout the year, Peer Support Leaders were fortunate to experience several leadership activities, whether mentoring Year 2s at the Primary Campus, or listening to informative and inspirational presenters which highly demonstrated the aspects of leadership. Alongside gaining skills in leadership, Peer Support Leaders were also allowed to portray their leadership skills amongst the variety of the Year 7 classes, where leaders would help run Pastoral Care in their selected classes and run fun pastoral activities. – Giuseppe C
